Bakugan Traps are a cool addition to the Bakugan Battle Brawler game and a must have for any serious brawler. Bakugan Traps enhance gameplay by allowing a player to change his or her
Bakugan's attribute to a different attribute revealed by the trap when it opens onto a gatecard. By changing the player's Bakugan attribute, his or her Bakugan can get the bigger or stronger
attribute bonus of the gate card or can now use ability cards that are for other attributes.
Bakugan Traps usually have a cool design and do not have the spherical shape regular Bakugan marbles have. They come in a wide variety of different shapes (and sizes too) and different attributes and usually have 1 to 4 hidden attributes.
Bakugan traps are used differently than regular Bakugan marbles.
To use a Bakugan trap in a battle you must first make sure the trap matches the main attribute (visible on the Bakugan trap) of the Bakugan you are using it with. This means if you are using a
pyrus Bakugan then you can only use a pyrus trap with that Bakugan. Bakugan traps are played during a battle which is after the gate card is flipped over. To use
the trap, the player simply puts his or her trap on the gate card to reveal the hidden attribute symbols on the trap, selects one of the revealed attribute symbol then informs his or her opponent which attribute
his or her Bakugan marble is changing into.
Bakugan Trap Gameplay Notes:
- You can only play traps when the trap attribute matches your Bakugan's attribute. If any gate card, ability card or any effect changes your Bakugan's attribute and
it no longer matches your trap's main attribute then you cannot use your trap.
- You can only change the attribute of your Bakugan but certain ability cards like "MetalFencer" can allow you to change your opponent's attribute.
- You can only have 1 trap in your team for the basic rules and 2 traps for the big game rules
- Bakugan traps are kept in your unused pile while they are still not used in a battle.
- After using a trap in battle, the trap will go to your used pile like any Bakugan and can only be returned to your unused pile when you ran out of Bakugan marbles to use for that turn.
Some Ability cards, gate cards or effects can let you get or move your trap back to your unused pile.
- Jillian has just landed her Ventus Hades (with 650 G Power) Bakugan on Jeanelle's gate card with Jeanelle's Pyrus Helios (600 G Power) Bakugan on it. Since two Bakugan
are now on the same gate card a Bakugan Battle will now begin.
- Jeanelle flips the gate card and it reveals a silver gate card. The Pyrus gate card attribute bonus is 250 G and the Ventus gate card attribute Bonus is 150 G.
- Since Jillian had the last move by rolling the Bakugan on Jeanelle's gate card then it is now Jeanelle's turn. Jeanelle decides to play nothing for now since she knows her Bakugan will win.
Her Pyrus Helios (600 G) will get an additional 250 G bonus from the gate card for a total of 850 G while
Jillian's Ventus Hades (650 G) will only get an additional 150 G bonus from the gate card for a total of 800 G which is 50 G lower than Jeanelle's Bakugan. Gate card Attribute bonuses are applied last during the battle
- It is now Jillian's turn and Jillian decides plays a Ventus Piercian Bakugan Trap which has 3 hidden atttributes (Pyrus, Haos and Darkus) and informs Jeanelle that she is changing her Ventus Hades' attribute to now Pyrus.
- Jeanelle checks her cards and she decides she has nothing else to play again.
- Jillian also decides that she has nothing else to play so now the gate card bonus will apply to complete the battle. Jillian's Hades is now Pyrus and will now get the gate card attribute bonus of 250 G which gives the
Pyrus Hades a total of 900 G power while Jeanelle's Helios only has
a total of 850 G power which makes Jillian the winner of the battle
- The battle is now over for this round and both players now put both their Bakugan and Bakugan Trap to their used pile
- I placed my trap on the gate card and it did not open, so does that mean I can't change my Bakugan's attribute.
No. Placing the Bakugan on a gatecard is simply a way to show the hidden Bakugan attribute. If your Bakugan Trap does not open simply tell the other player
that you will pick up your Bakugan Trap and will try to open it again by placing it on the gate card.
- My opponent just changed my Pyrus Bakugan to a Ventus Bakugan. Can I still use my Pyrus Bakugan Trap?
No because your opponent changed your Bakugan's attribute and the trap works only on the Bakugan's current attribute.
Since your Bakugan is now a Ventus Bakugan then your Pyrus Bakugan Trap will no work.
- I just used a Bakugan Trap and changed my Pyrus bakugan to a Haos bakugan. My opponent then plays a Metalfencer Bakugan Trap
and uses the MetalFencer ability card to change my Bakugan to Darkus. Was that play legal?
Yes since your opponent's Metalfencer ability card will change your bakugan to any attribute revealed by your opponent's MetalFencer Bakugan Trap
- I have a BakuSolar Darkus Freezer and decided to use the BakuLyte bakugan ability to change my Freezer to my opponent's attribute.
Can I still use my Darkus Trap since the my Bakugan still has the Darkus Symbol on it?
Bakugan attributes can be changed or altered during the game and Bakugan Traps work with the Bakugan's current attribute. If your bakugan's attribute is no longer Darkus then you can no longer use your Darkus Bakugan Trap since the trap will only work on a Darkus Bakugan.
- Can I play a Bakugan Trap and not change my bakugan's attribute?
No. Based on the Bakugan FAQ, the ability of the bakugan Trap to change your bakugan's attribute is mandatory.
We've created a list of available traps but they are in no way complete. If you have any updates or additions to our list feel free to email us. Some traps have been released with different attributes especially with newer
sets.
