Bakugan Battle Brawlers - Game Information

Information is important and we will try to provide as much information as we can about Bakugan Battle Brawlers and the game. We think that by providing this information we can help the community, players and collectors and make it a better and more fun experience for them.

Bakugan Battle Brawler Game

Bakugan Battle Brawlers is a "collectible toy game" created by SPIN MASTER LTD. The game involves two or more players who battle with toy figures on specially design cards. Bakugan is both a collectible toy and a game which makes it a little differrent from other collectible games.

Bakugan Marbles

The main element of the Bakugan battle brawlers game are made up of players battling with Bakugan marbles. These marbles are usually about an inch in size and are rolled onto special cards called gate cards that have a sandwiched metal plate which causes the closed Bakugan to open or pop open. Each Bakugan marble will have a printed G power which tells you how strong the Bakugan is, a base color which usually tells you what attribute the Bakugan is associated with and a printed attribute logo which is composed of Pyrus, Aquos, Haos, Darkus, Subterra and Ventus. Each Bakugan also contains a strong small magnet which acts as a lock and switch to keep the Bakugan in "ball form" and activates to "pop open" a Bakugan on the gatecard.

Bakugan also have unique Bakugan paint marking or detail markings that is also different for each attribute. Bakugan marbles also come in special colors or what are called "special treatment" Bakugan and these special Bakugan are sometimes played differently from regular Bakugan marbles. Bakugan marbles are usually composed of a number of small parts that are screwed together using triangle head screws. You can also find a lot of small coil springs within a bakugan and those serve as the main mechanism that causes the parts of a bakugan to pop open. Bakugan are also made with very durable plastic so parts don't break of easily but are still recommended for players ages 5 and up because of the size of the marble itself. A Bakugan also has a bakugan type which is the bakugan name and this can be sometimes confused with the Bakugan attribute. If someone is looking for "Aquos Viper Helios 730 G" then "Viper Helios" is the bakugan type and "Aquos" is the attribute of that bakugan.

Bakugan Attributes

Bakugan have 6 attributes which originally can be determined by the Bakugan color. The attributes Pyrus, Aquos, Haos, Darkus, Subterra and Ventus each have a unique logo design which is printed on the Bakugan and usually each attribute is associated with a Bakugan color. Pyrus Bakugan have a red base color, Aquos have a navy blue base color, Haos Bakugan have grey base color (a not white as shown in the TV show), Darkus have black base color, Subterra have tan or light brown solid color and Ventus have light green base color. Bakugan also have special base colors for some of their new expansion sets so don't fooled by the color of the Bakugan. Always refer to the printed attribute symbol for what attribute the Bakugan has.

Bakugan Cards

The other part of the Bakugan battle brawlers game are Bakugan cards which enhance gameplay, pops open Bakugan marbles and determines when a Bakugan battle will happen. Any Bakugan team (usually consisting of 3 Bakugan marbles) regardless of how strong the Bakugan are really useless without a good set of Bakugan cards. Bakugan cards consist of two types of cards: Gate cards and Ability cards.

Where to get Ability Cards

Random ability cards are included in Bakugan starter, Bakugan booster and almost any Bakugan product. They are also sold separately as Bakugan booster card packs, Bakugan card powerhouse packs and Bakugan card power packs. Gate Cards

Gate cards are special cards that have a metal plate inside them which opens the Bakugan that lands on top of it. We have three types of gatecards. Gold, Silver and Bronze or Copper gatecards. The Gate cards have attributes printed on the left side of the card, card artwork, a card name and gate card ability text and card number at the bottom. The gate card ability text is usually an effect that happens after the gate card is flipped over and gate card effects change or alter different parts of the turn or gameplay. Not all gate cards have an ability text and most silver gate cards have no or blank ability text.

How to play and use Gate cards

Gate cards are played differently from what is shown on the TV show. Each player can only have 1 Silver, 1 Gold and 1 Copper or Bronze Gate Card in his or her deck (2 for each in Big Game Rules). Gate cards are used by placing them in the middle of a battle or brawl arena which is called the field and Bakugan marbles are rolled onto them by players. One gate card from each player is placed or set at the field at the start of the game and gate cards are usually added to the field when there are no more gate cards on the field. Gate cards are also played in no particular order and strategies are sometimes created based on which gate cards are played first or in what order they are played. Some ability cards or effects will allow you to place a gate card on the field without waiting the field to be clear of gate cards. Players will battle with their Bakugan on the gate cards as soon as two Bakugan marbles are on them. Winner of any battle on a gate card will get to put the gate card in his or her discard pile and players with three (or 6 for big game rules) gate cards in their discard pile wins the game.

Gate card effects or abilities

Explaining how every gate card effect works is almost impossible to explain here but you can follow some general rules when playing or using them.

  1. Gate card effects or abilities usually can be triggered after the gate card is flipped over and during a battle.

  2. Gate card effects can apply to different Bakugan and sometimes target specific Bakugan attributes (Pyrus, Haos, Darkus...) or Bakugan types (Dragonoid, Ingram, Bakugan Traps...)

  3. Gate card attribute bonuses are applied last in any battle so the additional G-power added by the bonus is the last thing that will happen in a battle for the turn.

Ability Cards

Ability cards enhance the gameplay even more and make any Bakugan game more exciting. Ability cards like gate cards are available in three different types: red, green and blue (which also looks almost black). These cards change and alter the gameplay in many ways and allow for some cool Bakugan and gate card combinations. Ability cards are played throughout the entire turn and the number of effects are endless. They modify g-powers, remove gate card bonuses, allow you to move Bakugan to certain gate cards, and even remove Bakugan from your current the game.

How to play or use Ability Cards

Explaining how every ability card works and how it is played is almost impossible to explain here but you can follow some general rules when playing or using them.

  1. You can only have 1 Red, 1 Blue and 1 Green ability card per deck (2 of each is allowed for Big Game Rules)

  2. You can play as many ability cards as you want per battle. Just remember to alternate between you and your opponent when it comes to playing ability cards.

  3. You should know when you can play the ablity card - ability cards are played throughout the entire turn so you have to be careful when you can play your card.

  4. You should know the requirements needed play the ability card - Some cards require certain conditions before they can be played. Conditions like cards that only work with certain Bakugan need to be met before you can play the ability card.

  5. You should know the effect of the ability card - Some cards have simple effects such as G-power bonus and some can go as crazy as removing your opponent's Bakugan from your current game. Knowing what card does and how it can affect your team is essential in building a good Bakugan team.

Ability Cards with Attribute Bonuses

Ability Cards with attribute bonus usually allow you to increase your Bakugan's G-power based on the shown value. These bonuses do not always appear on cards and are usually found with blue ability cards. Theses bonuses do not automatically increase your Bakugan's G-Power and you have to carefully read and understand the card text to make sure how the bonus will affect your Bakugan or what conditions or requirements are needed to get the attribute bonus.

Collector's Item Ability Cards

Some Ability cards have been printed in a special treatment and can be found from a number of Bakugan sets. Promo cards are also available and some are included when purchasing the Bakugan DVD.
